MANNN, I'm so glad I grew up in a time & place where we could just run outside after lunch & before dinner and go door to door rounding up the gang: "Can so&so come out to play?"...

U always weave a great story though, David!CapCityhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03772430267433358900noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33667788.post-13246346880635312352008-05-02T13:22:00.000-04:002008-05-02T13:22:00.000-04:00Reminds me of the pick-up games of stickball I use...Reminds me of the pick-up games of stickball I used to play when visiting my grandmother in Philly.

When I coached kids, my biggest concern was always the parents. Fortunately, I was blessed with parents that were both helpful and knew when to stay out of the way. A rarity.

I wish you luck.

BTW - awesome first line. Would have used it as the title of the post myself.Kevin Smithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08172648739434861401noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33667788.post-67147456859497065092008-05-02T12:47:00.000-04:002008-05-02T12:47:00.000-04:00Cuz:You hit it right on the nose - or threw a stri...Cuz:

You hit it right on the nose - or threw a strike down the middle, if you want to go there.

You've read my pieces on playing ball in Dorchester, so you know I feel the same. We played every day, 5 or 6 games a day. Everybody knew their positions; all the stuff you said. When we went into Little League, we hated it. Too organized, and why settle for a couple of games a week when we could have 25 or 30?

Well-written memoir. We would be outside playing all day. She would let us back in for lunch, but then she would kick us out again. Baseball or football in the cow pasture, kickball, and hide and go seek. We were always doing something. My grandmother in New York would do the same thing. We would ride our bikes from Brooklyn to Manhatten and be gone all day. Yep the good ole days. Would I let my child do that now?
Hell Naw.

If I were not within eyesight of my kids (if I had any) I would be in full panic mode.
I guess that is the times we live in huh?Dirty Redhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01508696230100618659noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33667788.post-31561056875062653322008-05-01T19:27:00.000-04:002008-05-01T19:27:00.000-04:00Wow, great story and you sparked a memory or two i...Wow, great story and you sparked a memory or two in me as well.

Thanks for sharing...it was really good.fuzzbert_1999@yahoo.comhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08523386203834736598noreply@blogger.com
